After completing a Masters in Design at The Glasgow School of Art, where she focussed on tailoring and textiles, To began exploring digital technologies. She originally developed her practice as an installation artist working in underground and disused spaces, reframing flaws and imperfections as ornaments and assets. Her work in architectural environments nurtured her interests in cognitive and emotional affect, and so she began investigating the effects of spatial experience – or the ways in which physical and sensory triggers shape emotional and psychological effects.
The Scottish-born artist has been invited for artistic residencies at the Société des Arts Technologiques (Montreal), 4DSOUND Spatial Sound Institute (Budapest), and SpADE (Limerick). To has exhibited, performed, and given workshops at LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial (Gijon) and Southbank Centre (London). She also took part in a creative fellowship with Edinburgh’s Department of Clinical Neuroscience.
