After studying experimental film and video art, Fell reverted to earlier interests in computational technology, music, and synthetic sound. Since surfacing in 1998, he has continued a series of critically acclaimed releases on labels such as Mille Plateaux, Editions Mego, Raster-Noton, and PAN. Besides his solo work, he has been involved in numerous other projects, including the duo Snd, as well as collaborations with Errorsmith, DJ Sprinkles, and most recently, Will Guthrie, with whom he released two albums in 2020.
Fell's sound often imbues »fragments of dance genres … torn from their contexts and stripped down to their barest logic, each component probed and rearranged until it makes provisional sense,« as noted by The Wire. In addition to audio, the artist also produces installations combining spatial sound and light. Although based in electronic and techno music traditions, Fell’s practice has become increasingly informed by non-European musics.
