Since their 2004 debut Time of Rebirth, The Observatory have indeed found new life, over and over through constant musical reinvention using primarily guitars, drums and electronics. Cheryl Ong, Yuen Chee Wai, and Dharma push their instruments to the limit – in terms of both intensity and endurance. Backed by trance-inducing rhythms, oscillating synthesisers and mourning guitars, the trio embraces their Southeast Asian roots while also confronting the divided society of Singapore that they're currently enmeshed in. The band's various collaborations include a split 12″ with Acid Mothers Temple, released in 2018, and performances with Keiji Haino.
