The app is built on open-source Blockchain technology and allows the audience to interact with and show their appreciation to performing artists via emojis and a ◊Drop (token) system. Following registration, users receive 500 ◊Drops that they are free to send to participating artists of their choice. ◊Drops may only be given to the artist currently playing live, or the previous performer. Alternatively you can choose to divide the ◊Drops equally between all participating artists.

◊Drops are funded by 100% of the proceeds collected from purchases of the CTM Solidarity Festival Pass, and by festival sponsors Ableton and HAU Hebbel am Ufer. The monetary value of an individual ◊Drop is not fixed. It is a relational value, meaning that the value of a Drop = the total money collected / total number of ◊Drops emitted at the festival.

After the festival, each participating artist will receive additional income (on top of their artist fee) based on the number of ◊Drops they have received. Unused ◊ Drops will be equally split between all participating artists.

The CTM Drop App is an exploration of alternative ways to value and monetize online music performance and art, and aims to offer the public different ways to financially support artists. Various use cases are possible, and we invite everyone interested to try it out, and get in touch if you wish to contribute ideas to further development.

App registration requires a valid phone number to receive confirmation of registration. User behaviour is anonymized and will generate basic metrics such as the country of your service provider, and your device OS. Your data will not be shared with third parties, and will be deleted after CTM 2021.
