Working with mundane materials, cole evokes the uncommon. A sound artist practising through performance, sculpture, and installation, her long-form harmonies breathe with subtle evolution, aural biologies evolving in liminal spaces. Despite their often gossamer nature, they crackle with energy, colour and texture, the imperfect nature of sounds generated through haptic technologies giving them greater depth and character. Crystalised fragments of sound whirl in and out of her work, captured moments of transitory natures woven into her sonic web and given ghostly permanence. The result is often more hypnagogically comforting than haunting, like a warped jumble of memories bleeding into one another.
cole has put out work on a variety of imprints such as Oren Ambarchi’s Black Truffle, Belgian mutant sanctuary Ultra Eczema, and deep drone distributors Students of Decay. She’s collaborated with the aforementioned Ambarchi and James Rushford under the moniker Ora Clementi, as well as fellow experimentalists including Japanese guitar visionary Tetuzi Akiyama, New Zealand electronic pioneer Annea Lockwood, and the Canadian painter and sound improviser Lance Austin Olsen, among many others.
