The roots of all folk music predate much of our modern knowledge, born from a snatch of melody from some long-fossilised ancestor. Diving into this continuum, Moundabout brings forth a timeless permutation of the idea of Ireland’s folk history as an eternal resonance. Comprised of Paddy Shine of the almighty GNOD and Phil Masterson of Los Langeros, Damp Howl, and Bisect, the duo meld primitive percussion, analogue synthetics, and guitar with poetic loops hewn of rich loam, gnarled root, and looming stone. Their latest album An Cnoc Mór, recorded against the backdrop of the massive Galtees mountain ranges, is wonderfully reenvisioned folk-horror acid phreakology that is at once as playful as a Hobbit in their cups and as claustrophobic as an ancient barrow.
