Sasha Zakrevska’s multidisciplinarymusical journey started even earlier however, taking to the piano at the age of four. This constant exploration of sound is made breathlessly manifest in her propulsive, forward-thinking ear slammage as Poly Chain. While early releases like her Transatlantyk debut Music For Candy Shops loom over the listener in acidic abstractions, newer works like 2022’s Ukraine charity release Fairy Disco and this year’s RELAX EP on Funclab are tightly-coiled club tools that evoke an introspective world of pulsing synth swells and whirring liquid beats, gut-clenching deconstructions of electro as gleaming as they are piercing. Unrelenting from beginning to end, there’s a soft and subtle beauty that makes her work glow in the darkness, transporting the mind even as it propels the feet.

As composer and curator, Zakrevska has lent her aural aura to the sonic ministering of illegal Polish art spaces, local and international dance troupes, and the radio show Spaceship Tunes, wherein the listener might find anything from ambient to electronica. Collaborations with Bartosz Kruczyński and Stanislav Tolkachev, a split with Nene H on Standard Deviation, and a steady stream of viscerally transcendent techno-futurisms continue to spread her unique touch across sound systems.
