Restaurateur, head of sports collective-slash-creative agency Red Light Run Club, and co-director of the independent imprint transit records, Sean Bautista likes to stay busy. Along with his DJ sets, known for their deep and bass-heavy vibe, he holds multiple residencies on Bangkok Community Radio, FM Belowground, and Manila Community Radio — which he co-founded in 2020 as a decentralised volunteer-fueled platform to uplift underrepresented voices. He’s constantly recontextualising and blending references in his work in order to reach new heights of artistic innovation through visionary methods.
To help support part of his research, Bautista is currently fundraising together with Sai Versailles. As part of MCR’s ongoing effort to document the from the Bisaya region’s grassroots dance genre budots, they’re organising research in Cebu and Davao to explore how privilege impacts understanding of vernacular music, collected through interviews and focus group discussions as well as fieldwork.
